Rabbi Greenspoon Coverage during Medical Leave
Rabbi Greenspoon is scheduled to be out on medical leave for total knee replacement surgery starting Tuesday, December 3rd through as late as January 9, 2020. Together we have been preparing for his absence for this surgery for many months, focusing particularly on coverage for all of our regular Shabbat services, and on pastoral coverage in case of a critical pastoral need.
Our lay leaders will be covering Shabbat services. Laurie Mangold will lead all the Friday night services in December. Our teachers and tutors Pam Hemstreet, Laurie Mangold, Kate Passow, Gwen Sloan, and Michele Zuckerman have already committed to help lead various services, and Elyann Katz has signed up to serve as gabbai sheni. Gwen Sloan has also committed to reading three aliyot of Torah at every service she is attending. It is especially gratifying that our b’nei mitzvah students attending Shabbat morning services will not miss a beat in their training; everyone leading services teaches (or recently taught) these services to these students. There are still opportunities for other leadership roles if you are interested and available to volunteer. You can sign up here.
While Rabbi Greenspoon is away, please note that the following colleagues will provide emergency pastoral coverage:
Rabbi Amy Sapowith, Beth Chaverim Reform Congregation, 703.729.1659 (synagogue). Please note that Rabbi Sapowith is not available on the following dates: Dec 11-13, 23-26, 31 – Jan 1.
Rabbi Mina Goldsmith, Congregation Beth Emeth, 703.860.4515 (synagogue)
Emergency back up after Dec 10:
Rabbi Steve Glazer, Sha’are Torah, 301.869.9842 ext. 111 (synagogue)
We wish Rabbi Greenspoon a smooth procedure and speedy healing!
