Congregation Sha'are Shalom provides our congregants with various opportunities for "tikkun olam", in keeping with a commitment to live a Jewish life by helping to repair the world. Social Action activities at Congregation Sha'are Shalom center around various programs on behalf of the congregation locally, nationally, and globally, as well as in support of CSS members.
The Loudoun Emergency Homeless Shelter (LEHS) offers emergency shelter to families, single women and single men. This is a 44-bed shelter with an 89-day program offering intensive case management, life-skills classes and children’s services, as well as providing basic necessities like food and shelter.
Congregation Sha'are Shalom, in partnership with our many friends in the Loudoun community, provides and serves a healthy dinner once each month to shelter residents.
Please click the button below to contribute to this month's meal, which takes place on Tuesday, November 21. There are opportunities to provide entrees, side dishes, vegetables, fruit, and desserts. This is a wonderful chance to share your culinary skills, to get kids involved in giving back, or simply to take the opportunity to make a direct and positive difference in someone's life.

The Sha'are Shalom meals are always deeply appreciated for their variety, deliciousness, and good cheer with which they're served.
All the details on where and how to deliver the meals can be found in the link below. Drop off time is between 4:30pm and 5:00pm. Thank you in advance for your continuing generosity!

When we don't have enough sign-ups for food, our Social Action and Chesed Committee members fill in the gaps at their own expense. If you don't have time to shop, but would like to contribute to cover a portion of the costs, please click the link below and note 'shelter meal' in the memo. Gift cards to Costco and local groceries (Wegmans, Harris Teeter, Giant) are also welcome and can be dropped off at Sha'are Shalom.
Your donations are greatly appreciated!
Sha'are Shalom's Chesed Committee is one of the hidden gems of our community. They quietly make sure that acts of loving kindness are there when needed.
In these difficult times when everyone is dealing with so much, it can be hard to both reach out for help, or know how to give help.

If you or someone you know is in need - even with something as simple as a friendly phone call, an outdoor visit, a ride to services, or a prepared meal - or would like to know how you can help out, please contact Pamela Craig, Social Action Committee Chair.
Loudoun Hunger Relief - Food and monetary donations are always welcome. We've started a Thanksgiving Food Drive. Food can be dropped off in the lobby at CSS. You can also order food to be shipped directly to Loudoun Hunger Relief from their Amazon Wish List.
